11 Things to do on October 31 in Edmonton (If You're Not Trick or Treating)

For families that are not trick or treating this year, there are plenty of other activities locally that you can take part ini together.

Plan a [Physically Distanced] Museum Trip

All dressed up, but nowhere to go? Join us on Halloween for family-friendly activities and scares for ghouls of all ages. Wearing costumes is encouraged, and masks are mandatory. All Halloween activities are included in your admission on October 31. You must book a timed ticket in advance. Bonus for being indoors (brrrr... it's cold outside) and the fact that you can search through the Roundhouse with a flashlight - for creepy things!

Have a [Physical Distanced] Galaxyland Celebration

This year, Galaxyland may feel a little different for Halloween - but that's fun too! There's a reduced capacity Spooktacular happening on Halloween night, with rides and fun concessions like pumpkin spiced doughnuts, cotton candy and candy apples. Tickets are available at www.wem.ca/tickets, and guests will leave with a treat bag filled with goodies after the event. With the lights dimmed, and spooky decor, it's a fun [physically distanced] way to experience Halloween night!

Plan a Cohort Movie Marathon

Queue up Netflix, or DisneyPlus and settle in for a movie marathon - there are plenty of movies on Disney Plus, Netflix and Amazon Prime for you to choose from. We're currently watching The Haunted Mansion on repeat, because we're supposed to be at Disney this week, celebrating Halloween in Florida.

At-home Halloween Flashlight Scavenger Hunt

Trick or treating wraps up pretty early in our neighbourhood, so we had something exciting in mind for the older kids - an after bedtime, Halloween scavenger hunt, by Flashlight. It's like a traditional scavenger hunt, where you come up with the clues, follow them around the neighbourhood, or even around your community or city, and leave a prize at the end. It's a fun way to explore on Halloween, and end with a prize of candy, without trick or treating!

Grindstone Halloween Party

For a safe and fun Halloween for kids and adults alike, we're hosting a two day block party event! Limited to 100 capacity at all times in an outdoor setting with standing and seated tables, warm fires, and social distancing. Masks are required, except while eating and drinking, so please coordinate with your costumes, and remember to dress for the weather! 3PM - 7PM - KIDS AND FAMILIES (100 Capacity) Featuring safe and sanitized candy giveaway tables for kids, activities, and a photo booth to capture the family costumes! Hot cider, and full Grindstone menu available.

Halloween Decor Drive By

Get in the car and drive around your neighbourhood while you listen to spooky tunes, and catch the last glimpse of Halloween decorations, from a safe distance. There are plenty of houses to choose from around the city, like the popular street in Griesbach, or at Lake Summerside, or even in the Highlands. You can even head out into your own neighbourhood, if you don't want to venture too far out.

Fill a Piñata with Halloween Candy

Just because you're not going door to door for Halloween Candy doesn't mean that the kids can't enjoy a night of candy grabbing! Grab a piñata and a couple of boxes of candy - just like you would normally do to hand out to other kids, and fill it up. Queue up a Halloween movie and when it's time for the grand finale, you're ready to start pounding the piñata for the candy celebration!

Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Zoo is back! Even though Halloween is approaching, don't be afraid of ferocious tigers, scaly snakes or bone-chilling bats. Get closer to the wonders of the animal kingdom at the Edmonton Valley Zoo to celebrate conservation, costumes and candy! Please wear your costumes and bring a reusable treat bag. Zoo staff will be handing out candy at trick-or-treat stations in a safe manner.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

If you're not celebrating with trick or treating this year, you might want to consider doing something special for Halloween at home. Keep in mind that if this is your plan, you're going to want to make sure you have those pumpkins now! Every year, there's a big shortage of last minute pumpkins in the city, so get those while you can!
