Canyon Coaster at Canyon Ski Resort Opens for the Season - May 16, 2026

The Canyon Coaster at Canyon Ski Resort officially reopens on May 16, 2026, marking the start of another high-speed summer in Red Deer County. This is Alberta’s most unique thrill-ride, letting you soar up to 40km

Tucked into the hills of Canyon Ski Resort, the Canyon Coaster isn’t your typical amusement ride. It’s Alberta’s first and only alpine coaster, blending the rush of a roller coaster with the freedom of a self-controlled descent.

The Coaster stetches over 1,300 meters of track and dropping an impressive 440 vertical feet, the ride sends you weaving through forest trails and ski slopes with sweeping turns and sudden dips. Riders control their own speed using a hand brake, meaning you can take it slow and scenic—or push it up to speeds of around 40 km/h for a full adrenaline hit.

What makes the Canyon Coaster especially appealing is how accessible it is. It’s designed for a wide range of visitors: solo riders as young as eight can take the controls, while younger kids (ages 3+) can ride along with an adult. That balance of thrill and inclusivity makes it just as suitable for families as it is for thrill-seekers.

Opening day on May 16 runs from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, kicking off what’s expected to be another busy season. If past summers are any indication, tickets can sell out quickly—especially on weekends—so planning ahead is key.

Beyond the ride itself, the Canyon Coaster is part of a larger summer adventure park experience, with activities like ziplining, summer tubing, and aerial courses turning the resort into a warm-weather playground. It’s a reminder that ski hills don’t hibernate—they just trade snow for speed.
