Christmas Lights at Alberta’s ‘Griswold House’ Scheduled to Switch On This Weekend

Get the kids and hop in the car because this iconic holiday house is back for the sixth year running in Stony Plain. The ‘Griswold House’ is set to switch on the lights, on Friday November 21, 2025.

Stony Plain ‘Griswold’ Christmas Lights House

Decorated with strings of lights around the entire home, and even including features like Cousin Eddy in the RV, Santa and his Reindeer, you can expect a few new features this year when you visit this house in Stony Plain.

  • The lights go on at dark and remain on for a few hours, giving you plenty of time to to visit.

  • For a more low-key visit, visit early in the season, or during a weeknight, soon after-dark. This is a bedtime-friendly way to experience the lights, and also with lower crowds.

  • There is no cost to visit the lights, but food bank donations are being accepted.

  • Look close out front, you’ll find the iconic Griswold family’s 1989 Ford Taurus Wagon parked in the driveway!

  • There are other homes on the lane that are lit up. This is a fantastic, short walk to be enamoured with the Christmas lights. Bundle up to get out, walk around, and take in the full experience.

Planning your visit? Consider attending the Stony Plain Winter Light Up Festival: Sunday, November 30th from 6 PM to 8 PM on Main Street for the annual lighting of our Town tree. Snap a photo with Santa, strike a pose with elves, explore local businesses for holiday treasures, send a special letter to Santa, start the search for the Moose on the Loose, and soak in the DJ's holiday tunes!
