Free Admission to Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm (and More Adventures During Open Farm Days)
Alberta Open Farm Days hits the Edmonton area Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, 2026. Farms across the region open their gates so families can wander gardens, meet animals, and see where their food comes from — most of it free. Here's where to go.
Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm (Bon Accord)
Normally a paid ticket, Prairie Gardens runs free timed-entry admission for Open Farm Days — walking tours, a kids' corn maze, and a petting area with baby goats, no cost to walk in. About 25 km north of Edmonton. Tickets are limited, so book ahead. You’ll need to reserve your space in advance for this one.
Off-Grid YEG (Ardrossan)
A first-generation homestead running entirely off solar power and rainwater, free to visit. Guided tours at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. both days of Open Farm Days cover the solar setup, cover-cropping, and rain capture, plus a farm stand to sample what the land grows. Leave pets at home. This really cool learning opportunity is a unique way to learn more with the kids during Open Farm Days.
Aurora Alpacas (Sturgeon County)
A family-owned ranch 10 minutes north of St. Albert, free both days of Open Farm Days, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Meet the herd (including four cria born this summer), handle freshly shorn fibre, and watch spinning and weaving demos. Small market on-site; taco truck Sunday only. No booking needed.
Rosie's Best Friends Farm Sanctuary (Rich Valley)
A rescue sanctuary, not a working farm — free, Sunday only, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Meet the oldest, gentlest residents and hear their stories. A good fit for younger kids over a big-property trek. Double-check directions; it's easy to mix up with nearby Wabamun.
Kiwi Garden Centre (Acheson)
A nursery west of the city that adds animals for the weekend — free, both days, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Meet and feed the resident goats and chickens, catch the free 1:30 p.m. talk on edible fruits for Alberta gardens, or build a $15 take-home terrarium as an add-on activity. Trying to stick to a summer budget? Don’t worry - there’s still plenty to do for free.
Planning your route
Prairie Gardens and Aurora Alpacas sit north of Edmonton, about 20 minutes apart — an easy pair. Off-Grid YEG is east near Ardrossan; Kiwi Garden Centre is west in Acheson; Rosie's is further west near Rich Valley and Sunday-only. Check hours before heading out — some run set tour times, and Prairie Gardens needs advance booking despite free entry.
