The Now Radio Cardboard Cup is Back in March - Start Working on Your Ride!
Winter doesn’t just mean snow and scarves. For creative folks in Edmonton it also means digging into the recycling bin to build something amazing - and an incredible way to work on a family project. The NOW! Radio Cardboard Cup is an annual winter event hosted by 102.3 NOW! Radio that brings imagination to the ski hill in a big way.
Now Radio Cardboard Cup 2026
Every spring, on a Saturday in March, people of all ages gather at the Edmonton Ski Club to race homemade cardboard sleds down a snowy hill. The twist? These aren’t typical sleds — they’re handcrafted creations built from cardboard, tape, string, glue and lots of paint. The only limit is how wild and fun you can make your design — within safety rules, of course.
Participants register in age groups and compete not only for speed but for creativity.
There are cash prizes for the fastest runs and for the standout designs, so whether you’re strategic about aerodynamics or go all-out with artistic flair, there’s something to compete for. You could win up to $1,000 for the Cardboard cup!
Register quickly to make sure that you’re one of the 102 racers! There are limited spots available.
What makes the Cardboard Cup special is how it mixes a classic winter pastime — sledding — with artistic DIY spirit. Families, friends, and creative builders turn what would be ordinary cardboard boxes into colorful sled masterpieces, then cheer each other on as they slide down the hill. It’s free to attend as a spectator, and anyone with a bit of cardboard enthusiasm can take part.
Whether you’re there to race or just watch, the Cardboard Cup captures the fun of winter, the joy of community, and the thrill of seeing quirky creations in action. It’s a must-see if you love hands-on creativity and outdoor fun.
