Every Saturday afternoon this fall, Churchill Square turns into an open-air art studio — and it's completely free. The Art Gallery of Alberta's Educators, in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council, roll out the Art Cart with everything your family needs to make something together: supplies, prompts, and plenty of room to get creative.

No registration, no pressure — just drop by anytime between 1 and 4 pm, and stay as long as your crew is having fun. It's a lovely way to spend a Saturday downtown, whether your kids want to dive into a full project or just dabble for ten minutes before you move on to the next stop on your outing.

Each week brings a new theme:

• Sep 12 — Stamp it!: Design a reusable printing plate from scratch foam and print a whole series of patterns.

• Sep 19 — What Shapes Us: Turn a flat drawing into a 3D sculptural piece using paper, scissors, and markers.

• Sep 26 — Harvest Moon: Layer coloured paper into a glowing lantern to celebrate the season. (Light not included.)

• Oct 3 — Artist Innovators: Break the rules a little and experiment with charcoal and paint alongside feathers, sticks, and toothbrushes.

• Oct 10 — No Art Cart (Thanksgiving weekend)

• Oct 17 — Art in Motion: Use stencils and chalk pastels to create the illusion of movement on the page.
