Clareview Jumpstart Inclusive Playground
Accessible Playground | Northeast Edmonton
Everyone plays here — and that's the whole point. The Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at Clareview District Park is Edmonton's largest accessible play space, a 16,000-square-foot playground gifted to the city by Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and built so that kids of every ability can play side by side, not in separate corners.
What Makes It Special
The double-wide ramp system is the star. Instead of a token ramp to a bottom deck, ramps run through the entire main structure to allow wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers can roll all the way into the centre of the action. Kids who climb and kids who wheel end up on the same decks, headed for the same slides.
From there, the features keep coming: a roller slide (no static shocks, and a smooth ride for kids with mobility aids), a bucket swing with a supportive harness, a Sway Fun glider that fits wheelchairs, an accessible spinner, a giant multi-rider see-saw, and outdoor musical instruments. Sensory panels and quiet zones are built into the structure for kids who need a break from the busy parts of the playground — a thoughtful touch you won't find at most parks.
Good to Know Before You Go
Surface: Rubber throughout — smooth rolling for wheels of all kinds, and soft landings.
Shade: Overhead shade sails cover key areas, plus a picnic shelter nearby.
Washrooms: Inside the Clareview Community Recreation Centre, a short accessible pathway away.
Getting there: Free parking at the rec centre, and the playground is an easy walk from Clareview LRT station.
Who It's Best For
All ages and abilities — that's rare, and it's by design. There are toddler-friendly zones, big-kid challenges, and equipment that works for kids with mobility aids, sensory sensitivities, and everything in between. It's also a great pick for mixed-age groups, since nobody gets stranded watching from a bench.
While You're There
The Clareview Community Recreation Centre next door has a pool, library, and indoor play options — an easy rainy-day backup or a warm-up stop in the winter. The playground's pathways, lighting, and picnic shelter make it a solid spot to settle in for an afternoon.
