École Mother d'Youville School
Introduction to the École Mother d'Youville Playground
A forest of bamboo, dropped into a Beaumont schoolyard - and it’s a challenge playground for older kids that we’re here for.
That's the first thing you notice — a stand of tall, slender climbers rising straight out of the ground, nothing like the moulded plastic towers at every other park. They're a genuinely challenging climb, and they're the reason this playground is worth knowing about. It's small. It's underrated. And it asks more of a kid than most playgrounds do.
There's a clue to why in the school itself: Mother d'Youville is a grade 5 to 9 school, which makes this one of the few schoolyards in the region built with older kids in mind. The equipment reflects that. A spherical rope climber. A skateboard balance beam. Climbing that rewards persistence rather than just height. If you've got a nine-year-old who's bored of every playground within ten minutes, this is the one to try.
Playground Features
Tall bamboo-style climbers — the signature piece, and unlike anything else in the region
Spherical rope climber
Skateboard balance beam
A compact site — this is a focused playground, not a sprawling one
Practical Info for Visiting
This is a hidden playground, tucked around the back of the school. Speaking of schools, this is a grade 5–9 school, and the equipment skews accordingly: strong for confident climbers, thin for toddlers
Small site. Plan a focused stop rather than a full afternoon, or pair it with Parc Réunis across town for a proper Beaumont playground crawl
No washrooms on site
Beaumont is a drive from Edmonton — worth combining with another playground or adventure
