Edmonton River Float (Updated for 2026)

Edmonton River Float offers one of the easiest ways to experience the North Saskatchewan River without having to organize your own vehicles or gear. The self-guided float starts upstream at Laurier Boat Launch and ends back at Kinsmen Park, taking you through the heart of Edmonton's beautiful river valley. What makes this a great choice for families looking for a way to get on the river is that it includes a premium float tube with a backrest and cup holder, a life jacket, paddle, safety briefing, and round-trip shuttle service.

This is a great option for families with older children who are comfortable around open water. Children must be at least 5 years old, and kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone under 18 is required to wear a life jacket throughout the float. Most floats take 2–3 hours, depending on river conditions and how much paddling you do.

Know Before You Go

  • Book online early – Summer weekends and holiday dates often sell out well in advance with this popular float. You don’t have to leave the city - so book this one early to avoid disappointment.

  • Plan for 2–3 hours on the water – River flow changes throughout the season, so float times can vary. Later in the season, the float times will be shorter than earlier in the season.

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early – Check-in is at KinsmenPark, where you'll complete your waiver and board the shuttle to your floating start point.

  • Minimum age is 5 years – Younger children aren't permitted on the float.

  • Life jackets are provided – Everyone receives one, and anyone under 18 must wear it at all times while floating.

  • Wear water shoes or secure sandals – You'll get wet entering and exiting the river. Bring shoes with straps!

  • Pack light – Bring water, sunscreen, and a waterproof bag for your phone, keys, and other valuables.

  • Leave extra time for parking – Kinsmen Park can be busy on warm weekends during the summer.

  • Know your exit point – Staff are waiting under the Walterdale Bridge at Kinsmen Park. Missing the exit means you'll need to get yourself off the river and return your equipment. Be vigilant when you are nearing the exit point for the river float.
