Rapid Fire Theatre Improv Camps for Kids & Teens in Edmonton
Week-long improv camps where Edmonton kids and teens build confidence, make friends, and learn to think on their feet
If you're hunting for an Edmonton camp that does more than just fill the days, Rapid Fire Theatre's improv camps are one of our favourite picks for creative, high-energy kids. Rapid Fire is Edmonton's longest-running improv company — around since 1981 and recognized as one of the best in the world — so your kid learns to play, perform, and think on their feet from people who do it for a living.
These aren't line-memorizing, pressure-filled theatre camps. Improv is built on play: saying "yes, and," trusting your gut, and treating every flub as a happy accident. Campers spend the week on their feet playing games, building scenes, and belly-laughing their way to real confidence and stage presence — skills that carry well beyond the stage.
Camps for every kind of kid - from shy first-timers to future headliners
Rapid Fire groups campers by age so everyone's alongside peers at a similar stage. The youngest crew (ages 6–9) learns through non-stop games, building body control, focus, and teamwork. The middle group (ages 9–12) starts turning the ideas in their heads into real scenes, practising "yes, and," following their impulses, and turning failure into gold. And teens (roughly 13–18) go deeper into the fundamentals of improv, character work, and performance. No prior experience is needed for any of them — the whole point is a welcoming, inclusive space where kids can be loud, be silly, and come out of their shells.
We love recommending these camps for the "class clown," the big-imagination kid, or the quieter one who just needs a low-stakes place to find their voice. Each week wraps with a showcase where campers perform what they've learned, and family and friends are invited to come cheer them on. It's a genuinely joyful way to close out the week.
Rapid Fire runs these camps during school breaks throughout the year, so if you've missed one session, there's usually another on the horizon. Check their site for current dates and open registration.
