Edmonton Heritage Festival

Eat your way around the world without leaving the river valley. Sixty-plus pavilions, 85+ cultures, one August long weekend — and after years away during Hawrelak's renovation, the planet's largest three-day multicultural festival is finally back home. Admission is free (toss a few bucks to the Food Bank on your way in). Come hungry, but come prepared: pavilions take debit and credit only, so leave the loonies at home. Three days, then it vanishes for a year.

Edmonton Fringe Festival

Take a chance on a show you've never heard of — that's the entire point. North America's biggest and oldest Fringe turns 45 this year with 200+ indoor productions across 11 days, and every single ticket is $20 or less. Roam the free outdoor grounds for buskers, beer patios, green onion cakes, and a free KidsFringe built for the under-12 crowd. The buzzy shows sell out fast, so lock in your must-sees early and wing the rest.

Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival

Forty paddles, one thundering drum, zero chill. Watch teams go blade-to-blade in dragon boats on the North Saskatchewan while drummers, dancers, and food vendors turn the riverfront into a proper party. Best part? Cheering from the shore costs you nothing. Plant yourself near the finish line for the loudest, splashiest photo finishes of the summer — and bring a hat, there's not much shade down there.
