New ‘Illuminated Magic’ Christmas Trail Offers Free Holiday Experience in Banff
Discover the wonder of Christmas in Banff and Lake Louise this holiday season with In Search of Christmas Spirit. Step into an enchanting outdoor experience that brings the spirit of the season to life in the most breathtaking way. Twinkling lights guide your path as you embark on a heartwarming journey through the Cascade of Time Garden, where you’ll witness a live Christmas story told by the animals of Banff National Park.
Designing the Illuminated Magic Christmas Trail
These vibrant creations were designed by acclaimed Indigenous sculptor and painter Jason Carter, whose bold animal installations set the scene for this magical story. Creative Director Bridget Ryan helped shape the experience, co-writing the narrative and working with local artists to build a soundscape that feels immersive and full of wonder.
Visiting Banff for Illuminated Magic Christmas Trail
You could plan a day trip, or a quick overnight if you’re planning to find holiday magic in Banff, or planning to experience Banff through the holiday season.
Although the event is free, families will need to reserve a spot online before arriving. Be sure to bundle up — the trail has some uneven ground and isn’t accessible for mobility devices. For everyone’s safety, pets and outside food aren’t permitted. You’ll need a National Park Pass to visit, and the installation has free tickets available on the following dates.
