Big Lake is one of the best birdwatching spots near Edmonton, and this fall walk times itself perfectly to migration season.
Nature Alberta's expert naturalists lead families along part of the Sturgeon River in St. Albert, out toward Big Lake and the surrounding ponds and wetlands. Keep an eye out for migrating birds passing through on their way south.
The walk is open to all ages, though older kids will get the most out of the pace and the birdwatching. The exact meeting point is sent directly to registered participants, so sign up ahead of time rather than just showing up.
Spots are limited. To reserve your place, email Nick Carter at naturekids@naturealberta.ca with how many adults and youth will be in your group. If the walk fills up, you'll be added to a waitlist and contacted if space opens.
