Looking for a way to wear the kids out that they'll actually thank you for? A handful of City of Edmonton pools drop a giant inflatable obstacle course right into the water during open swim — climb it, wipe out off it, do it again. It's a regular drop-in rec swim (no registration, just show up and pay admission), so it slots easily into a rainy afternoon or a too-hot-to-be-outside day.

Two pools run it most reliably. Eastglen Leisure Centre on the north side is a go-to, with the inflatable set up in the main pool. Coronation Park (the pool at Peter Hemingway Fitness & Leisure Centre) is the other regular home for inflatable swims. Between the two, you've usually got a session somewhere in a given week — though exact days and times rotate, so the schedule is the thing to check before you load the car.

Every so often the inflatable comes to Kinsmen Sports Centre too, and that's the one to watch for — the leisure pool there is big, so those sessions tend to run long (an afternoon-into-evening block) with more room to play. They're occasional rather than weekly, so grab them when they appear on the schedule.

One thing that trips families up: the inflatable usually sits in the deep end, which means the 25‑metre swim rule applies. Anyone heading into deep water has to swim 25 metres unassisted first — kids under 13 have to demonstrate it, and staff can ask older swimmers to as well. So a child who can't yet do a length won't be able to get on the main attraction (or will need to wear a PFD). Plan for it so nobody's heartbroken at the pool deck.
