Free Summer Outdoor Drop in Programs

Edmonton Green Shack Program

One of the most popular options is the Green Shack Program, which runs in parks across the city throughout the summer. Children can drop in for games, sports, crafts, and other supervised activities without registration. The program is designed primarily for children ages 6 to 12 and takes place at dozens of neighbourhood locations.

Youth ages 8 to 17 can also take advantage of the City of Edmonton’s free Youth After School Program. Offered in partnership with local organizations, these programs provide sports, cultural activities, social opportunities, and academic support at recreation centres throughout the city. Many sessions welcome participants on a drop-in basis.

Edmonton Green Shack Shows

The Green Shack Shows are free, drop-in summer programs run in neighbourhood parks across Edmonton. Led by trained staff, these sessions offer kids a mix of games, creative activities, music, sports, and themed events designed to keep them active and engaged throughout the summer months.

Free Drop-in Try Skateboarding with Project Rad

Curious about skateboarding? Join Project Rad Skateboarding and their certified coaches during this one-hour “Try It” session at the Spruce Grove Wheeled Sports Park. This program is free and drop-in with the goal of creating a low-pressure way to try out skateboarding. Skateboards and safety equipment will be available to use during the session. Waivers must be signed on site prior to participation. Minors wishing to participate will be required to have their parent/guardian to sign their waiver.

Cool off and explore a new park each week with our community! This fun drop-in event is every Tuesday, July 7 – August 25 starting at 2:00. During this drop-in play, you’ll visit different spray parks across North Central Edmonton and collect stamps along the way—every visit is a chance to win prizes! You can pick up your Spray Trail Passport at North Central Edmonton Family Network, inside Castledowns YMCA. Grab your passport and join in for a summer of adventure!

Free STRATHMA Garden Explorers Drop-in Program

Join these free weekly sessions, every Friday, designed for children 4+ and their caregivers. Each session gives children the chance to get their hands dirty while planting, tending the garden, and discovering how things grow. Kids will also take home a seedling, making it easy to continue the gardening fun at home.

Free Summer Indoor Drop in Programs

Free Apple Camp & Coding Classes

The Apple Store has free weekly coding classes and Apple Camp in Edmonton offer hands-on, beginner-friendly opportunities for kids and teens to learn real programming skills in a fun, supportive environment. Local programs include interactive workshops at the Apple Store where participants use Swift Playground on iPad to build apps, create digital stories, and explore the basics of coding and design.
