The cheapest version is a block of spots at a public swim. The middle is renting a pool to yourselves. The splurge is the wave pool at West Edmonton Mall. And the sleeper that undercuts everything in the city proper is out in Sherwood Park.

The Four Ways to Do It
Before you book, work out which kind of swim party you are actually throwing, because these barely resemble each other on the receipt.
- Reserve a block at a public swim. The cheapest way in. You pay per head, swim alongside the public, and cake happens elsewhere.
- Rent the pool to yourselves. Private or semi-private, plus a room for cake. More money, but it is your group and your noise.
- Go big at the wave pool. Slides, a zip line and the world's largest indoor wave pool. Costs the most by a distance.
- Book a hotel room and make it a sleepover. Small crew only, but nothing else on this list doubles as a sleepover.
Where to Book
City of Edmonton Public Swim Reservation
The cheapest swim party in the city, full stop. The Aquatic Reservation Program lets you hold spots for a group of up to 40 during a regular public swim, with front-of-line entry so nobody queues. Everyone then pays regular drop-in admission: $6.50 a child aged 2 to 12, $8.25 a youth 13 to 17, $9.75 an adult, free under 2, or a household rate of $26.50 for up to seven from the same home.
Good to know. The request form has to go in at least 16 days ahead, and this is not exclusive use. You are sharing the water with the public and there is no cake room bundled in, so add a room rental or do cake at home.
Kinsmen Leisure Centre, Sherwood Park
The one to know about. A hundred and eleven dollars to bring your whole crew swimming, or three-thirty-three to have the entire pool to yourselves. Shared means you may split the pool with up to two other booked groups; private is the whole place, no strangers. Either way it undercuts a City private rental and buries the West Edmonton Mall number. Add the party room for $95.52 and you get a 1.5-hour rental before or after your swim with tables, chairs and fridge storage, so a shared pool plus a room still lands around $207 for a sizeable group.
Good to know. No pinatas or latex balloons, the air-intake system cannot handle them. Party slots run limited windows, roughly Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and evenings, so book ahead and confirm your time.
Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool
When the outdoor pools are open, roughly late May through August, renting one is the sleeper deal of the season. A flat rate for a big group, not a per-head charge. Bring your own pizza, spread out at the picnic tables, let the little ones wade in at the zero-depth shallow end, and walk it off afterwards at the adjacent playground and spray park. Good to know. Outdoor pools close for cold below 18C, wildfire smoke or storms. It is a fair-weather bet, so keep a wet-weather backup in your pocket.
ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre
Want the whole pool without leaving the city? Several City centres rent privately by the hour, and ACT in the river valley is the example most people land on. Exclusive use, your group only, just pricier than Kinsmen.
Good to know. Rates and availability vary by centre, so call the one nearest you rather than assuming. You are still sorting your own cake space.
World Waterpark, West Edmonton Mall
The headline act, priced like it. The Starfish package covers admission for seven guests including the birthday kid, a semi-private picnic table for six to eight, a reserved birthday table, and tube and towel rentals. Meals are included: burger, hot dog, nuggets, corn dog or veggie burger with fries and a drink. Slides, a zip line and the world's largest indoor wave pool at a permanent 31C.
Good to know. The math people miss is that $530 covers seven kids and every extra guest is $65, so a party of twelve lands around $855 before treats. Meals are only served noon to 4 p.m., so time the party accordingly, and cake has to come from Fantasyland Hotel with no other outside food allowed.
Sandman Signature Sherwood Park
For a smaller guest list, the easiest swim party going is a hotel with a waterslide: book a room and pool access comes with it. Kitchenette suites have a separate living area, which is the whole trick. The kids run the waterslide from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., you lay out cake in the living room, and when the swimming is done the birthday crew crashes for a sleepover. Join their free RSVP Rewards and book 14 or more days ahead and rates can drop up to 35%.
Good to know. This is the catch that makes or breaks a hotel pool party, and it is the same at every property: the pool is for registered guests, with a cap on how many swimmers each room is allowed. Some hotels forbid non-staying guests entirely. Call first, say it is a birthday, and confirm the guest-per-room limit before you send a single invite.
What Age This Works For
Swim parties stretch further across ages than almost any other party type, but the right venue shifts with age.
Toddlers and preschoolers. Skip the wave pool and think shallow, warm and contained. Kinsmen's preschool package, which is playground plus room and needs no swim at all, or a City reservation at a pool with a zero-depth or teach pool. Mind the ratio, little kids and deep water need hands, not eyes.
The 6 to 12 crowd. Prime territory. Kinsmen is the sweet spot with real slides and diving boards priced for a crowd, and a City reservation is the budget play if you just want them splashing. This is where the swim-test gate starts to matter, so pick a pool with both shallow and deep areas.
Tweens and teens. The wave pool at West Edmonton Mall, provided they are confident in water. A private Kinsmen buyout also works for an older group that wants the pool to themselves without the mall price tag. And a hotel-plus-waterslide sleepover is a tween and teen favourite: swim, pizza, a movie, and not a single room of your own house to clean up.
Two City pool rules that catch people out. A maximum of three children under 8 per responsible person aged 15 or over, and those little ones must be within arm's reach the whole time. Anyone heading into deep water or down the big slides has to swim 25 metres unassisted first. Work out your adult-to-kid ratio before you invite twelve five-year-olds.
